Background
Westar Energy was the electric utility for eastern Kansas. Beginning in 2013, I led a repositioning of the company and a revision of its brand identity across all channels.
Challenge
In 2018, Westar merged with Kansas City Power and Light to form a new regional energy company called Evergy in 2019. Knowing that this might be the end of our partnership, we recommended bookending the stories we have helped Westar tell through the years with a campaign focused on its customers. "Powering every moment" is a reminder that Westar is silently working behind the scenes to bring energy to the everyday moments in peoples' lives.
Solution
Because video remains the strongest medium for telling stories, we developed a hero video (:60, :30 and :15 versions) with filmmaker Mark Pellington that captures the tension and creativity of asking a classmate to prom. We also created a series of cinemagraphs and animated social posts that highlighted everyday moments.
